Oreo Truffles

I have a love/hate relationship with Oreos. I find them annoying. Do you wanna know why? It’s because they taste good…but there is no civilized way of eating them because no matter what you’re always left with crumbs stuck in between your teeth (and braces..I’m so glad my braces days are over!). I mean it’s so embarrassing to walk around like you just ate a plate of dirt, so Oreos are one of those foods that I do not eat in public. It’s a dangerous food so I only eat it in the safety and privacy of my own home away from people’s judging eyes. Yeah, maybe I’m just ridiculous and way too self-conscious about how I eat, but that’s that.

Anyways these Oreo “truffles” (or Oreo balls) are so good that I might (keyword: MIGHT) make an exception with my do-not-eat-oreos-in-public rule. Because while there’s still the risk of getting oreo crumbs stuck in your teeth…these truffles are just soo good to be able to resist.

Oreo truffles are one of those things (like my Nutella cookies) that taste better the next day (and the subsequent days after that). I think it’s because the ingredients are allowed to mush together and create a more consistent texture.  In my opinion anyways. You can eat these whenever, of course, that’s totally up to you.

The best thing about these Oreo truffles, compared to chocolate truffles or cake balls, are that they are relatively easy and quick to make.

The process is simple: take Oreos (or any chocolate sandwich cookies) and smash them into smithereens. You can do this in a food processor, a mortar & pestle (it sounds funny, but it works!), or by putting the cookies in a large freezer Ziploc bag and smashing with a rolling pin.

Then you cream the cookie crumbs with softened cream cheese. Roll into balls. Freeze.

Dip in vanilla almond bark or candy melts.

If you want, you can melt chocolate and put it into a Ziploc bag as a makeshift piping bag to decorate your truffles. And tada, you’re done!

So give these a go and let me know how they turned out for you 🙂
