How to Make Chocolate-Covered Strawberries!

Chocolate-covered strawberries are such a decadent but guilt-free treat since there’s fruit involved. (Guilt free for me anyways…but when am I ever really guilty about eating something decadent and delicious and chocolate?)
A few months ago one of my friends hosted a wonderful spa day at her house. And let me tell you she did an amazing job! The guests and I were totally blown away with how she decorated! She totally created the perfect spa atmosphere! As the foodie friend and chocolate fiend I decided to bring these chocolate-covered strawberries because I thought they would be the perfect little spa treat as we soaked our feet in bath salts and did facials and whatnot.

Chocolate-covered strawberries are so simple and easy to make as long as you keep a few things in mind. If you follow my directions carefully you’ll have the perfect and prettiest chocolate-covered strawberries!

Start with some fresh, sweet strawberries and carefully but thoroughly rinse them.

Let them drain in a colander and then carefully but firmly pat them dry. It’s important that the strawberries are completely dry before you dip them in the chocolate. Water in melted chocolate will mess up the consistency and make for some sloppy and not-so-pretty strawberries. No bueno.

As you are patting your strawberries dry with a paper towel go ahead and stick toothpicks into the center, like so.

This part is optional but I recommend it because by doing so you have a good grasp on the strawberry when you dip them in the chocolate.

Now for the chocolate! Add about 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to your chocolate chips. This will ensure your chocolate is smooth and shiny!

Place your chocolate chips in a glass bowl and place it over a pot of simmering water. Make sure the water does NOT touch the bottom of the glass bowl.
Stir to coat the chocolate chips with the vegetable oil. The chocolate will begin to melt in a few minutes. Stir occasionally. Once 85% of the chocolate chips are melted take the glass bowl off the simmering water and stir until all of the chocolate chips are melted completely.
Look. At. Dat. So smooth and silky and shiny and perfect.
Before we start dipping make sure that you have a plate with some wax/parchment paper so you can set your strawberries on that after you’ve dipped them.
Now for the fun part! Dip your strawberries into the melted chocolate carefully swirling off any excess, and plating it on your wax papered plate. Keep doing this to all your strawberries.
Now if you want to make them extra fancy, you can melt white chocolate chips (either in the microwave or using the makeshift double-boiler method I showed earlier with the regular chocolate chips) and place it in a plastic baggie, snip of a corner and swirl some pretty designs on your strawberries!
For perfect chocolate-covered strawberries let the chocolate set for about 5 minutes at room temperature before you put them in the refrigerator for 15 minutes. Then when you take them out they will have perfectly set!

  1. Wa alaykum as salam! Jazakallah khair 🙂 I haven't tried melting chocolate with olive oil…but I imagine it should work fine, since vegetable oil resulted in some beautifully melted chocolate! As for butter, I've seen mixed results. Sometimes the chocolate seizes up, and sometimes it melts fine.
